What is
Occupational Health?

Occupational Health is a specialist branch of medicine focusing on the health of the employee in the workplace. Occupational health professionals aim to find out what impact work has on staff health and ensures that staff are fit to undertake the role they are employed to do, both physically and emotionally. Occupational health specialists can support organisations through advising on work-related illnesses and accidents, carrying out assessments for new starters and existing employees, as well as monitoring the health of their employees.

The Health & Wellness Centre is situated behind The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. The Occupational Health Department is based within the Health & Wellness Centre, and is the main hub of the department. Satellite Centres operate at both Newham University Hospital and Whipps Cross University Hospital on specific days.

The department is SEQOHS accredited.  View our Accreditation Certificate here. SEQOHS stands for Safe, Effective, Quality Occupational Health Service and is a set of standards and a voluntary accreditation scheme for Occupational Health services in the UK and beyond. SEQOHS accreditation is the formal recognition that an Occupational Health service provider has demonstrated that it has the competence to deliver against the measures set by the SEQOHS Standards.

The scheme is managed by the Royal College of Physicians of London on behalf of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.

SEQOHS is now available in Ireland and is endorsed by the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
